While this well-known two-act Zarzuela in its monastic setting lives up to its name with its share of melancholy, it is not without its light moments. La Dolorosa has a special place of prominence in the genre. Its delightful mix of the sacred and secular move toward a climax when Rafael makes his choice between the two.
